Hive Bee-nefit:
Music Festival Branding

When exploring topics for my thesis project, I chose a topic that would allow me to demonstrate my love of illustration while also creating something meaningful to myself and current issues. The endangered
bee population sparked my interest due to their decline being predominately caused by human impact on the environment. Live music
is another interest of mine, so I combined the two to create a “bee-nefit” music festival for bees as my thesis project.

The goal of the festival, named “Hive,” is to bring awareness and raise money the endangerment of bees. Fifty percent of sales go directly to
the Hive Foundation which helps save bees through the minimization
of insecticides and pesticides, teaching organic farming practices,
and spreading awareness of the ongoing threat to bees.

When designing the various collateral for Hive, I wanted the designs to
be vibrant, lively, anthropomorphic, somewhat kitschy, coherent, playful,
and illustrative. My target audience were millennials, who are both environmentally conscience and driven by what’s “in vogue.” The colors chosen to represent HIVE are bright and reminiscent of tropical foliage and florals. This reflects the natural habitat of bees and their diet of wildflowers. By using bright complementary colors, the design theme is eye catching and enticing. The logo establishes a sense of space and movement by allowing other elements such as the flying bees and
foliage to interact with them throughout the designs.
